Pretty neat idea.

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across. Put your car keys beside your bed at night. 

If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car alarm. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around. After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime. 

Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone.

Home Alarm System in Malaysia

New at this not many people are familiar on the types and brand of alarm systems. Below are some of the commonly available systems in Malaysia which have around for some times:

• Supa8 Alarm System, Supa10 Alarm form Australia; The control panel of SUPA8 Supa10series have been designed with a very simple purpose in mind to detect alarm and report them. SUPA8 Supa10 series of control panel have a digital dialler built-in which allows alarm messages to be sent to either a monitoring company or to your phone.
• BluGuard Alarm
  Bluguard L900 offers the intelligent 9 zones system to protect our family, apartments or office at a competitive cost. It comprises tone feedback and call in/out functions to users via the conventional phone line as the primary line and GSM as the back up line.

• SATEL alarm; function similar as above.
• Paradox Alarm
  PARADOX ESPRIT
  Esprit features a wide range of control panels with 4 or 8 on-board zone input terminals and can support up to 2 keypad zones.
• ADT function similar as above systems

All systems mention above are similar in function, they can be pre set to dial your handphone number should the alarm be triggered. What is more important is the company installing it, should provide after sales service during the first 6months as the system is settling in and there are bound to have false alarms due to thunder and etc. For such incidents the system would have to be adjusted for its sencitivity.


All systems come with a standard panel which houses the control system, a keyboard for arming and disarming the alarm, sensors which range from vibration sensors, magnetic contact sensors, motion sensors, photoelectric beam and etc.


These systems when installed can range from RM1k to RM3k for a Link Home, subjected to the number of points required.


The Basic Cost is as follows:

• for the control panel, siren and keypad: RM800.00

• for Magnetic Contact and vibration sensors: RM75 to RM85 per point or per unit
  

• for Motion sensors and photoelectric: RM150 to 200 per unit or per point
  

In summary, the more points you have the price goes up. The cost usually includes installation and wiring.


Some systems like ADT come with a response team from their company should the alarm be triggered. This service is additional at RM70 to RM80 a month. I find this not necessary but it would be useful is you are not at home most of the time.


Home or Office alarm systems are mainly for deterrent purpose and this does not mean the thieves would not try to break into your property.

It would be best that you get to know your neighbours, it makes a lot of difference on the safety and security of your Family and Property.
